Disparate Threads at Springville!
Disparate Threads, Spiritual & Religious Art of Utah, Springville Museum of Fine Art, 2024-2025
When I left the installation with the museum, it was a somewhat scaled down and reset version of Disparate Threads that I could recognize. When I returned to check on it a month later, I was shocked.

What kind of glorious mess is this?!
Every iteration of Disparate Threads has been a unique experience. This is no exception. The beauty and challenge of making art you hand over to the public is that you have no control over what happens to it!
I am so touched by the sheer volume of participation at a traditional museum where interactives are new, and in a state where LGBTQIA+ issues are taboo.
As I took some time with this monstrosity and turned over every thread in my mind, I was reminded of the line in the finale of Les Misérables:
“It is the music of a people who are climbing to the light”.
In this quiet room of the Spiritual & Religious art show, it seems we are all climbing together to better understand our relationship with the Divine.
