Disparate Threads wins at Research Fair

I have been doing a lot of research for a future installation on queer faith called Disparate Threads. This includes reaching out to and interviewing queer people of faith in Utah, especially those who do not belong to Utah’s dominant religion.

I did not consider this work to be particularly academic, but my professor strongly suggested I present my research at UVU’s Showcase of Undergraduate Scholarly & Creative Works. I’ve never done this sort of thing before, but I thought I might as well give it a shot.

I competed in the poster presentation of the showcase, and had a lot of interesting and informative conversations with those attending the event. I was so impressed by all of the “real” research (psychological, technological, & scientific) being shown around me! These are all students??

So you can only imagine my surprise when my name was announced at the awards ceremony.

I guess some of the judges were just as curious about this overlooked group of people as me.
